Huntelaar was the real deal, but he was playing during a much different time at Schalke. They were still competing year in and year out, they were capable of scoring goals, and even when that number started to drop off to about half of his explosive Golden Boot winning year, he was still scoring regularly, contributing as the ideal target man, and giving the Royal Blues so much hope up top.

Hell, as a 36-year-old at Ajax, he has nine goals and two assists, which would make him Die Knappen’s top scorer if he were still here.

Huntelaar ended up with 82 goals in 175 appearances with Schalke. He led them to a DFB-Pokal Cup and a DFB-Pokal Supercup and he can absolutely count himself as one of the best strikers in club history.
