Midfield

RM. FC Schalke 04. WESTON MCKENNIE. 5.8. Looked like he was trying to play all three midfield positions on his own—defensive mid, central mid, and No. 10. Every so often you’d have to remark that he did well with it, but frustration was getting the better of him. He is a fighter, and he fought hard for everything. Problem is there was nothing there to fight for. But he kept looking, as he narrowly avoided a second yellow by throwing an elbow into Osako’s head. Again, love the fight, but it was a smart sub to take him off when Wagner did. Props to McKennie for the fire he maintained, however.

FC Schalke 04. ALESSANDRO SCHOPF. 5.9. I couldn’t tell you a single thing he did in the first 45 minutes. That said, he did find himself in control of a decent opportunity in the early going of the second half. He continued to assert himself in the second half. He had some excellent moments in there, pressuring the attack, maintaining control, doing really well to keep the momentum moving forward.. LM
