Centerbacks

JEAN-CLAIR TODIBO. 4.3. Had some really inspired runs up the pitch early on. Problem is, that gave him the confidence to keep doing it, and in the 32nd minute it meant having his pocket picked and turned into Werder Bremen’s opening goal. Not a good look. Defensively, he struggled more as the match went on. He handled the ball more than anyone else in the first half, but still a disappointing showing. Ended at half-time, too.. CB. FC Schalke 04

6.7. Man of the match. He keeps getting better, as expected. And he had a lot of work to do in the early going. That work slowed in the second half, but Sane was always there to put a halt to things when needed. He also created arguably Schalke’s best chance of the match, heading on to Gregoritsch, who hooked the shot over the bar. This was a complete return to form for the big man. Welcome back.. CB. FC Schalke 04. SALIF SANE

FC Schalke 04. OZAN KABAK. 6.5. Very composed, great to have him back. I always say the least you hear about a defender, the better he played, and Kabak was relatively unheard of. That’s a good thing. He did shine with a tremendous defensive effort in the 83rd to deny Bremen what might have been a second goal.. CB
