Schalke 04: 3 hidden positives in another embarrassing defeat
By Josh Sippie
1. The changes are coming
Okay, so maybe we’re all a little disenchanted with David Wagner’s inability to muster the troops. But you may have noticed significant changes from the side that was battered against Dortmund. Guido Burgstaller did not even see the pitch, Michael Gregoritsch and Rabbi Matondo were given the job of reviving this attack, and all things considered, it wasn’t the starting XI that was the problem.
Once the subs came, you could see more of the changes. Ahmed Kutucu came on early and the next couple of subs Wagner called on were youngsters Nassim Boujellab and Levent Mercan. Clearly Wagner is throwing in the desperation, and while you never want to be desperate (obviously), it means that we will start to see different things.
With the injuries and the short rest, Wagner is going to have to keep things rotating. We will undoubtedly see even more changes against Dusseldorf, so even if we have nothing but dread to look forward to, at least we know that there will be different faces out there on the pitch. There’s always something exciting about that.
