2. Suat Serdar

Suat Serdar was an understated disappointment against Dortmund. I mean, sure, he couldn’t do much against this hulking black and yellow wall that Dortmund suddenly became, but as the top scorer and one of our most innovative players, we saw next to nothing.

Part of that comes down to Omar Mascarell not being there, but there’s a good chance that Omar Mascarell won’t be there against Augsburg either. So what happens then, does the midfield capitulate again?

Serdar is the guy we count on to carry the ball out of danger, to start the attacks that will—hopefully—lead to threats on goal. There was such a disconnect between all the theaters of play against Dortmund that Serdar barely saw the ball.

Establishing some kind of midfield presence should be the top priority and I get that becomes exponentially more difficult without Mascarell, but don’t act like our midfield isn’t talented enough to work around the absence.

Serdar must do more and, on the bright side, he can do more.

On to No. 1.
