9. Suat Serdar—$11.55m
Suat Serdar was another one of those guys, like Omar Mascarell, who looked to be another dud when he first arrived at the Veltins. His first year at the club was pretty lukewarm, as he looked like the kind of guy that could solidify into a decent rotational option. Then everything changed, seemingly without warning.
In the 2019/20 season, he shot out to the top of the Schalke scoring charts which, while not exactly that crowded, is still a testament to his ability to make the late, deadly runs into the box and put the finishing touches on a move.
It wasn’t just that though, it was also his ability to win the ball back, to slalom through the opposing midfield, and infiltrate all the way to the opposing defense. Serdar really is one of those guys who can do everything and, at 22-years-old, that makes him an attractive transfer target for numerous top clubs out there.
As of writing, no new contract has yet been agreed on, with his current running out in 2022, but the decision point is now and Schalke needs to figure out what happens next.
