2. There is plenty of time left

Probably not what a lot of people want to hear right now, because plenty of time left means the possibility for more matches such as this, where the life seems to be sucked out of club and fan alike. But there is also plenty of time to mount a substantial turnaround as well and, even if Schalke don’t look capable of that right now, knowing what they looked like at the start of the season should give some room for optimism that things could yet turn around.

As it stands, Schalke is just two points out of sixth place and the final Europa Cup slot. That’s a completely realistic goal to aim for and it’s something we can achieve with just a couple decent displays. Dortmund was the last menacing match of the season, as the rest—particularly the next three—are against teams that we should be beating.

Now, granted, that didn’t mean anything earlier in the season when we were specifically not beating those teams, but again, if this club can turn into a dumpster fire with no warning, who’s to say they can’t turn it around and get back into their better form similarly without warning?

It’s a little abstract, but if Wagner can start rotating in guys who haven’t been as involved in the downfall quite as much, maybe it’ll light the fire we’re all so desperate for. The positive fire, this time, not the dumpster fire.
