The 2019-2020 Bundesliga season is reportedly set to return soon, but what have been Schalke 04’s most pivotal games thus far?

Schalke 04 sit in sixth place in the Bundesliga table this season, having made huge progress in David Wagner’s first season at the helm. In 2018-2019, the Royal Blues looked hopeless in attack and were one of the league’s worst teams, but, now, they are back on the rise in Germany’s top flight.

The 2019-2020 Bundesliga season will resume shortly, but before it does, it’s time to take a look back at what have been the five most pivotal games of the campaign for the Royal Blues thus far. And yes, “pivotal” in the positive and negative sense.

Schalke 04 vs. Mainz, Sept. 20

Amine Harit scored the best goal of the Bundesliga season in this match to give Die Knappen a 2-1 victory at the VELTINS-Arena. His goal rescued all three points for the Royal Blues and continued what they built on in the past Bundesliga match, when they defeated SC Paderborn 07 5-1.

Their next game in the league – a 3-1 win over Champions League side RB Leipzig – was more impressive, but Harit’s last-gasp, outside-the-boot goal against Mainz was the moment that gave Schalke the momentum and confidence to defeat Leipzig.
