2. Gregoritsch retry

When Michael Gregoritsch arrived, it was a massive step forward for Schalke 04. They had been having so many striker questions asked and unable to be answered. Guido Burgstaller was going in and out again, Ahmed Kutucu still wasn’t starting. There was just a lot happening and not a lot was sticking.

Gregoritsch came in and had a near-perfect match in his debut against Borussia Monchengladbach. He scored, assisted, had a clearance off the line, and looked like the missing piece we’d been waiting for. The question quickly turned from “what can we expect” to “how can we keep him permanently.”

Schalke 04 needs to figure out Michael Gregoritsch

But that was the high point. Gregoritsch did not do anything since then and, worse, he started to become a liability. His performances tailed off and he eventually fell out of the starting XI in favor of Burgstaller in the final match before the pause.

Speaking of guys who need to restart, Gregoritsch may need it more than anyone. He is in desperate need of starting over.

Finally, No. 1.
