2. Forget Nubel
I am not a fan of Nubel anymore, obviously. Many people aren’t. But you can’t be so naive to think that he isn’t an incredibly talented keeper who we would have loved to keep. That’s why he was made captain and given a contract offer to try to entice him to stay.
More from Release The Knappen
- Schalke 04: Arkadiusz Milik would take everything, but he’s worth it
- Schalke 04: Ozan Kabak makes Jean-Claire Todibo pass quietly
- Schalke 04: Omar Mascarell the only boost between now and then
- Schalke 04: David Wagner just has to make it to the end of the season
- Schalke 04: At least we still have Weston McKennie
It’s not easy to replace someone of that caliber. Not easy at all. And even if we had added the excitement of Zack Steffen, or whoever else might have joined the club, they would have needed time to truly replace Nubel. Markus Schubert is in need of that time too.
Ralf Fahrmann is one of the few guys who does not need time to replace Nubel. Fahrmann has always been a tremendous keeper, he only went out on loan to make way for Nubel and keep his game time up and now that he’s coming back, there should be zero drop off in quality at keeper. A nice, rounded zero.
Fahrmann is going to walk in, claim the job, and we’re going to forget all about Nubel. And since Nubel isn’t going to unseat Manuel Neuer any time soon, we won’t even have to think about him when we play Bayern. So that’s nice too.
