Schalke: 3 things to fix before the 2020-2021 season

FC Schalke 04 have enjoyed a successful 2019-2020 Bundesliga campaign, but there’s still work to be done before they can reach the next level.

Smart summer signings, such as Markus Schubert and Ozan Kabak, and several shrewd loan deals bolstered FC Schalke 04‘s squad heading into 2019-2020. The team already have an impressive collection of players, specifically at center back and in midfield, but they needed a manager who could get the most out of them.

In his first season with the club, David Wagner did exactly that, helping Amine Harit and Suat Serdar post breakout seasons, as Omar Mascarell joined them with a massive bounce-back campaign in defensive midfield.

Schalke, at the postponement point of the 2019-2020 Bundesliga season, are currently in sixth place and stand a great chance of returning to European football in 2020-2021. But at the midway point of the season before injuries hit and the goals dried up, the Royal Blues were legitimate title contenders. They have the potential to return to being one of Germany’s elite clubs, but with RB Leipzig’s rise and Borussia Mönchengladbach’s talent, it won’t be an easy road.

So here are three things Die Knappen can do to improve their squad heading into what could be a tremendous 2020-2021 season.
