2. Schalke vs. Borussia Mönchengladbach, Jan. 17

Die Knappen and Die Fohlen played to a scoreless draw to begin the 2019-2020 Bundesliga season, but Schalke were the superior side to begin the Rückrunde. This match was the Royal Blues’ only truly great performance in the second half of the season, but it was special to watch loan signing Michael Gregoritsch at his absolute best.

Schalke dismantled Marco Rose‘s side, which should be playing Champions League football in 2020-2021. They completely neutralized the fearsome attacking trio of Alassane Plea, former star Breel Embolo, and Player of the Year candidate Marcus Thuram.

Offensively, the Royal Blues were rampant, with Gregoritsch providing a goal and an assist in a dream debut and Suat Serdar scoring with a whopping four dribbles completed.

1. Schalke at RB Leipzig, Sept. 28

It’s crazy to think that the Royal Blues lost 5-0 to RB Leipzig in the Rückrunde at the Veltins-Arena, because when they traveled to Leipzig in the Hinrunde, they dominated one of the best sides in all of European football.

David Wagner put on a tactical masterclass against the league’s best coach in Julian Nagelsmann, and Schalke capped off a dream month of September with their best performance of the season, defeating Die Roten Bullen 3-1.

Amine Harit scored from the spot and provided an assist for young forward Rabbi Matondo, as Schalke sealed the game 3-0 within an hour. Leipzig grabbed a late goal, but they stood no chance against a disciplined, talented Gelsenkirchen side.

Once again, Harit was the star man, recording three key passes and drawing six fouls against a frustrated, powerless Leipzig.
