Schalke: 3 reasons you can’t do better than Arkadiusz Milik
By Josh Sippie
2. He’s at the right level
Schalke have a tendency to buy down. By that, I mean that they don’t often sign players at the competitive level that they need to be at. They look for prospects or under-the-radar signings to try to scrape a competitive team together, all while preserving their funds. Part of the problem being that so many players leave for free.

- Schalke 04: Ozan Kabak makes Jean-Claire Todibo pass quietly

Milik is not a stretch. He is not someone they are reaching down to try to pull up to their level. He’s been through the Champions and Europa League at Napoli, he’s been in the running for Serie A titles.
Basically, he’s at the level that Schalke need to be at, not vice versa. This is a classic big boy signing, the kind of signing you need to make if you want to move up in the standings of things and stop meddling with midtable.
You don’t always have to make clever signings. This is just a roundhouse kick of a signing. The kind that you know will be a success because he’s proven.
Finally, No. 1.
