Schalke had a fair share of breakouts thus far into the 2019/20 season, but here are five guys that are primed to break out come next season.

It’s common practice for Schalke to have unsuspecting players break out on a year-by-year basis. Whether they be youngsters or overlooked oldsters, there is always at least a few people who announce themselves to the world from the Veltins.

This year, we’ve seen some huge breakthroughs. Ozan Kabak comes to mind first, since he wasn’t expected to make the breakout that he did, but there are plenty of others. Suat Serdar is the biggest breakout star, as he has somehow become out biggest goalscoring threat in the span of less than a full year on the pitch. Now everyone wants to buy him. Go figure.

Omar Mscarell? Benito Raman? Breakouts. The lot of them. Pretty much half the starting XI is populated by guys we weren’t exactly expecting to do the job they did.

So what about next year? What kind of players can we expect to see breaking out in the same way that Kabak and Serdar did this year? I’m glad you asked. Because I’ve got five ear-marked for the honor of breakout star of the season.

We start with No. 5.

5. Markus Schubert

Did this guy arrive just in time or what? With Alexander Nubel, the former captain, set to ditch the club for free and take the same old road down to Bayern Munich, Markus Schubert is going to inherit the No. 1 job. All in spite of the constant rumors that he was going to replaced by someone like Zach Steffen.

There is still a chance that Schalke go out and buy a new keeper, but in all likelihood, it will just amount to a No. 2, or a near competitor for Schubert. But they aren’t going to replace him, because he proved this year that he is more than capable of doing the job himself.

All he needs now is the opportunity to prove that Die Knappen has done it again. They’ve found another.

Moving on to No. 4.
