Schalke: Ozan Kabak and 5 key players to watch against Leipzig
RB Jonjoe Kenny
Quietly, RB Leipzig left midfielder Angeliño, who is on loan from Manchester City, has been tremendous over the past couple of weeks. Since joining the club during the winter transfer market, Angeliño has been a revelation.
The former PSV man completed four dribbles against Tottenham in the Champions League, drew four fouls against Bayern a couple of weeks ago, and recorded three key passes in an easy in over Werder Bremen in his last Bundesliga game. Playing a more attacking role under Nagelsmann, Angeliño has three tackles and six interceptions in his last two Bundesliga outings, per WhoScored.com.
Having recently returned from injury, Schalke right back Jonjoe Kenny will have his hands full offensively and defensively against Angeliño. Here’s to hoping he’s up to the task of going head-to-head with a breakout star.
DM Omar Mascarell
Like Ozan Kabak and Jonjoe Kenny, Omar Mascarell will undoubtedly have his hands full on Matchday 23 against Die Roten Bullen. Mascarell is one of the Bundesliga’s most intelligent players, recording interceptions as a high rate and surveilling the field as a deep-lying passer who starts attacks for the Royal Blues.
His connection with Suat Serdar and Amine Harit in midfield will be important, but if Gregoritsch continues to struggle, Mascarell’s ability to pick out long through balls to Raman could be just as important.
Mascarell, as the captain, will set the tone as a leader for Schalke, but he’ll also be key to setting the tone for the Royal Blues on both ends of the pitch in the high-stakes role he fulfills for Wagner.
