Midfield
As mentioned, I’m thinking that David Wagner will go with two banks of two midfielders here, but I’ll likely be proven wrong if he opts for more width and wingers, rather than two strikers and two central creators.
More from Release The Knappen
- Schalke 04: Arkadiusz Milik would take everything, but he’s worth it
- Schalke 04: Ozan Kabak makes Jean-Claire Todibo pass quietly
- Schalke 04: Omar Mascarell the only boost between now and then
- Schalke 04: David Wagner just has to make it to the end of the season
- Schalke 04: At least we still have Weston McKennie
Anyway, you can count on Weston McKennie probably getting another go at returning to fitness here. Pair him with Omar Mascarell and this midfield has all the backbone it needs to keep hold of the midfield. It worked in Berlin last time, it will work at the Veltins now.
With Suat Serdar injured, and the other options we have, I would like to see Amine Harit get his place secured. He could likely use the rest, but it’s hard to make this attack tick without Harit, especially with Serdar missing as well.
I’d also expect to see Alessandro Schopf get back in there. He’s been moved all over the place as a sort of utility man, but we should see him used in a hybrid role here. Perhaps rotating between winger and helping out in the midfield.
Finally, the attack.
