Schalke and David Wagner have freed up a spot in their squad after releasing one of their players in the last few days.

Schalke 04 signed Marcel Langer from German neighbors Hannover 96 in the summer of 2018. The defensive midfielder was seen as a massive prospect right since his signing, but was made to play with the club’s second team in order to get more minutes under his minutes than he would whilst playing for the first-team setup.

Unfortunately, even alongside the junior string players, Langer was not able to get as many minutes as he’d require to make an impact and overall had a year and a half of struggle with Die Knappen. Subsequently, Schalke released him in this transfer window after Langer had played just under 400 minutes and made just 9 appearances for Schalke II.

BBC Sport has now confirmed that Scottish Premiership club Hearts has signed the free agent as one of their winter signings. The outfit’s manager Daniel Stendel played a crucial role in the player’s arrival into Edinburgh as the fact that Langer and Stendel had worked together in Hanover helped the decision between both parties a tad-bit easier.

Heart of Midlothian take on St. Johnstone in their first outing following the end of the winter transfer window on Saturday evening. Marcel Langer may probably not be ready to feature for his new side by then, but he will definitely play a crucial role in helping the side into pushing for a top-half finish in the league over the next few months of the campaign.

Marcel Langer will hope to put his troubles from his Schalke days behind him. Meanwhile the Royal Blues are coming off a 0-0 draw with Hertha Berlin and are gearing up to face Hertha again in an upcoming DFB Pokal fixture.
