Midfield

Not that I want to talk any more about the Bayern Munich match, but it must be said that this midfield was completely invisible. They established zero presence, they helped the defense 0% and they are far better than that.

Thankfully, David Wagner knows that, and I don’t foresee any changes to the midfield three-ish set up. Expect the ever-reliable captain Omar Mascarell to anchor the middle, and expect him to do a fantastic job as always. He’s been the spine of this team all season and the armband just adds more majesty to what he’s always done.

On either side of him, expect Suat Serdar and Daniel Caligiuri. Serdar may well have been the most disappointing performance against Bayern simply because of how little he did. It’s not like he screwed up or anything, he just completely disappeared. For one of our best players, that is both sad an inexcusable. He’s better than that.

We’ll see that here. He will bounce back.

We’re also still waiting for Caligiuri to find his way back into consistent form. Hoping that happens soon but, if it doesn’t, McKennie is waiting.

Finally, the attack.
