FC Schalke 04 got completely obliterated by Bayern Munich to the final score of 5-0 this past weekend. Midfielder Leon Goretzka took an opportunity to celebrate in front of Schalke fans after scoring and well, isn’t sorry about it.

Boy oh boy, could anyone have predicted the beating that FC Schalke 04 took at the hands of Bayern Munich? I was hoping it would be a revenge game with Schalke on top but sadly, that wasn’t the case on Saturday.

It was a lopsided match to the point where even I was shocked that Schalke seemed lifeless and not playing up to their standard. The fact that they looked like they didn’t have that sense of urgency was a bit concerning as they still had a chance to muster up some kind of rally but Bayern continued their onslaught.

Bayern’s Midfielder Leon Goretzka seized the moment as his team was en route to annihilate Schalke to celebrate a score. After nailing a wondergoal, Goretzka went falling right in front of the Schalke faithful.

It wasn’t anything out of the norm as former players of a team love to showboat after scoring against them, but Goretzka isn’t even sorry for celebrating.

In an article written by AZ of Abendzeitung, here is what he had to say about if his celebration was meant to disrespect Schalke fans after taking a 3-0 lead at the time:

"“It was not planned that the Schalke curve was there, but I’m also not a fan of the fact that you suppress your cheers too much.”"

Even though he was a part of Schalke for five years (2013-2018), his tenure there wasn’t under the best of circumstances. It was his way of taking a jab at his former team as his new home with Bayern was a much-needed change of atmosphere for him and his promising career.

Clearly and at least for now, it’s a move that is paying off as Bayern continues to prove they plan to be top contenders this season in Bundesliga. Goretzka is undoubtedly happy to have not only scored against his former team but leaving Allianz Arena victorious is always a great thing. Now, all Schalke can do is learn from this tough loss and do their best to bounce back as soon as possible.
