Suat Serdar would be an ideal purchase for numerous European heavyweights, but Schalke can’t afford to cash in on the gifted midfielder.

It’s rare in this day and age that a player at a club of Schalke‘s size manages to fly under the radar of Europe’s most elite clubs. Fortunately for the Bundesliga club, Suat Serdar is still managing to perform this impressive feat.

It’s an amazing accomplishment for a player that was recently referred to as the “beating heart” of Schalke’s team. When you look at the German international’s play in the Bundesliga this season, it’s impossible to understand why the most ambitious clubs in Europe aren’t ringing Schalke officials on a daily basis.

His Whoscored.com player rating average of 7.59 in his 15 league appearances gives a helpful, but incomplete picture of just how good Serdar’s been this season. Despite operating primarily as a conventional midfielder, he’s still managed to find the back of the net seven times. That qualifies him as the club’s top goal scorer on the year.

Any club in Europe could benefit from adding such an accomplished scorer to their midfield.

That doesn’t mean Serdar is a luxury player though. He’s quite willing to stick his nose into the physical play that exists in midfields all across Germany. His status as a true box-to-box midfielder who also can damage opponents in the attacking third should make him a tremendously valuable player moving forward.

The challenge for the Royal Blues will be holding on to their talisman. It’s only a matter of time before Bayern Munich comes calling. They’ve made a strong habit out of poaching top, young talent from rival German clubs for years. It’s imperative that Die Knappen resist the temptation to let Serdar become Bayern’s most recent acquisition for as long as possible.

The best case scenario for the club would be to hang on to Serdar for several more years and then conduct a sort of open bidding war for his services. The chances of this club being Serdar’s one and only club are remote. That doesn’t mean they can afford to lose him anytime soon though.

It’s crucial for Die Knappen’s Champions League hopes to hang on to him for the remainder of the current campaign. Expect big offers to come in this month, but they should all be rejected. Serdar is more than the heart beat of this team. He’s their most crucial player in every way.
