FW Michael Gregoritsch

Playing the “halb neun” role alongside Benito Raman, Michael Gregoritsch did so much to set up his teammates. He really stepped up in Harit’s absence and provided a creative impetus in the final third that Schalke had been missing. Gregoritsch looks like a genius loan move after only one game, and if this continues, he could push FC Augsburg for a permanent deal to Gelsenkirchen. After missing a glorious early chance, Gregoritsch assisted for Serdar and scored the game-sealing 2-0 goal after unselfish work from Benito Raman. Gregoritsch was the Man of the Match for Schalke, and his chemistry with Raman is already a sight to behold.

ST Benito Raman

If Alessandro Schopf is one of the hardest-working wide attacking players in the Bundesliga, then Benito Raman is on the shortlist of the most energetic strikers. The pacy Belgian absolutely burned the right – and left, if we’re being honest – side of Gladbach’s defense all night long. Raman did not score a goal, but he did assist Gregoritsch perfectly, showing great vision to pick him out for an easy goal. Endless sprinting is the hallmark of Raman’s game, and he finished with two shots on target, two dribbles completed, two key passes, and two fouls drawn. He has been a massive breakout star for Schalke’s attack.

ST Ahmed Kutucu

The Turkey international entered the game in the second half for a worn-out Benito Raman with Schalke looking to maintain their 2-0 advantage. They did, and Ahmed Kutucu did his best to help the team extend that lead. Kutucu’s passing, awareness, creativity, and work rate are excellent. He is indeed a future star, and it’s a joy to watch him fly at defenders as a sub. The way the young substitutes work for David Wagner is great to see, and Kutucu could be on his way to being one of the Rückrunde’s most important super subs.
