FC Schalke vs Eintracht Frankfurt player ratings: Three huge points
By Josh Sippie
FC Schalke welcomed Eintracht Frankfurt to the Veltins needing three points to keep the pace and they got it in a big way. Here are the player ratings.
FC Schalke had an excellent opportunity to put a little bit of space between them and sixth place, which is something the Bundesliga is not used to seeing this year. It wasn’t long ago that three points separated the top of the table from ninth place.
Add to that the need to keep pace with the top four above them, as there were some massive matches by Dortmund and Bayern Munich, boasting score lines the likes of which Schalke haven’t produced in some time.
Wagner started with what’s been working, as well as what hasn’t been. Guido Burgstaller took a seat and in light of Ahmed Kutucu‘s injury, Rabbi Matondo got the start and Benito Raman was on his own up top.
The match opened up really early, despite the nil-nil scoreline going into the half. It didn’t last much longer than that, as who else but Benito Raman, set up by who else by Amine Harit, tapped home beautifully in the 52nd minute.
Not longer after, Alexander Nubel made one of the truly worst decisions in quite awhile to earn himself a red card that gave Eintracht Frankfurt life where there was little. But in the end, it meant nothing, as Die Knappen fought tooth and nail for the three points and they got it. Job done. Well done.
