FC Schalke 04 striker Mark Uth has been dealing with an adductor injury, and it will cost him the final three games of 2019.

The Royal Blues have found a breakout star in Benito Raman, who tore up the month of November and has now scored in each of FC Schalke 04’s past three games. David Wagner could still use another breakout star at the forward position, and 19-year-olds Rabbi Matondo and Ahmed Kutucu could be part of the solution.

Kutucu and Matondo’s importance to the squad has increased for the final three games of 2019, because Schalke will be without veteran attacker Mark Uth.

According to a report from Sky Sports Germany, Uth will miss the remainder of the calendar year with adductor issues, which he’s dealt with over the course of 2019. Uth featured in just three minutes of action as a substitute in last week’s 2-1 loss to Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena.

Like last year, the 2019-2020 campaign has been one to forget thus far for the former Hoffenheim star. He clearly has not looked 100-percent this season, and the adductor issues could easily explain this. Uth has missed easy chances, struggled to get into games, and hasn’t been one of the many players who has benefited from the bounce back under Wagner.

Hopefully, Uth can have a full recovery over the January break, because the quality he showed at Hoffenheim is impossible to dispute. He can be a quality scoring option in the Bundesliga, and Schalke fans will hope that his struggles have been down to injury.

Uth will miss Schalke’s upcoming games against Eintracht Frankfurt, VFL Wolfsburg, and fellow Champions League contenders Freiburg. But when he returns for the Ruckrunde, Wagner and the fans will have their fingers crossed that he can make an impact.

Schalke’s first game in 2020 after the break is against league leaders Borussia Monchengladbach. Perhaps Uth starts as early as that game, but it’s also possible a young forward like Matondo or Kutucu seizes a starting job by then.

Either way, we wish Uth the best in his recovery and hope he can regain his health and his form in 2020.
