Union Berlin had a golden opportunity early in the match, but FC Schalke 04 struck first blood in the opening 45, courtesy of a wonderful strike from forward Benito Raman.

FC Schalke 04 finally seem to have their concerns at the striker position answered by Benito Raman, who has been in sterling form recently.

Raman was active against Fortuna Dusseldorf before the November break, setting up a goal for Daniel Caligiuri and nearly creating another for Amine Harit. And in his first game after the break, the Belgian was resplendent, scoring once and assisting Harit in a 2-1 win over Werder Bremen.

And on Matchday 13 at the Veltins Arena against Union Berlin, Raman scored in the 23rd minute, taking full advantage of Keven Schlotterbeck’s injury that left Union down to 10 men.

That was an absolute rocket at the top of the box from Raman, who hit this on the half-volley while being unmarked by Union’s defense. Forgetting about Raman as an ever-present danger is a dreadful mistake, and Raman made Union pay dearly for their negligence.

This goal is definitely Raman’s best in a Schalke uniform, but there should be plenty of more gems to come in the 2019-2020 campaign. The young striker is hitting his form and has established himself as a sure-fire starter in Schalke’s weekly lineup.

With Mark Uth and Alessandro Schopf both injured, Raman’s importance to the Royal Blues only increased for this Friday evening game at the Veltins, and he more than stepped up to the task with this goal.

Left back Bastian Oczipka deserves high praise for this goal, too. He sent in two picture-perfect deliveries prior to Raman’s thunderous strike. Like Raman, Oczipka has been in great form lately, and there are few fullbacks in European football who are as adept at creating chances off set pieces and crosses.
