CM Suat Serdar
German international Suat Serdar has been one of the biggest breakout stars in the Bundesliga this season, and he has more than replaced Leon Goretzka as Schalke’s superstar box-to-box midfielder.
Against Werder Bremen, Serdar had another action-packed display. He led the way with five tackles, per WhoScored.com, and also added two interceptions to showcase his defensive work. In the attack, Serdar continued to trouble defenses by drawing fouls with his electric dribbling.
CM Omar Mascarell
The more defensive midfielder of the two, Omar Mascarell is the beating heart of Schalke’s elite midfield. Mascarell has enjoyed a monstrous bounce-back campaign under David Wagner, and if it weren’t for Amine Harit’s breathtaking season, Mascarell would be regarded as Schalke’s most valuable player.
A lot of the Spanish international’s work flies under the radar in terms of international attention, but Schalke fans certainly noticed his accurate passing against Nuri Sahin’s Werder Bremen. Per WhoScored.com, Mascarell led the team with 77 passes, completing well over 90% of his attempts.
Mascarell also showed off his excellent defensive work, winning three tackles with three clearances and three blocked shots to boot. Talk about making an all-around impact.
