FC Schalke 04 will have one of the world’s most coveted young attacking midfielders next summer, as teams as big as FC Barcelona and Liverpool have been linked to Amine Harit.
After being cast aside by Domenico Tedesco last season, Amine Harit has enjoyed an unsurprising breakout campaign under David Wagner in 2019-2020. By far FC Schalke 04’s best player, especially in the attack, Harit has already scored five goals and recorded two assists this season.
Clubs around Europe are taking notice of the Moroccan midfield, and Corriero dello Sport reports that Liverpool are the latest team to monitor Harit.
Since Liverpool could use a dynamic, goal-scoring attacking midfielder behind another former Bundesliga star in Roberto Firmino, Harit could be a dream addition for the Reds. Jurgen Klopp’s side was previously linked to a reunion with midfield dynamo Philippe Coutinho, who has since been relegated to bench duties on a loan deal with Bayern Munich.
Harit is a magician on the ball and extremely hard-working off it. He’ll often drop off deeper into midfield to pick up the ball and start attacks, where his dribbling skills, ingenious finishes, and slick passing create chances. If Harit played with better forwards, his assist totals would better reflect his passing contributions. And Liverpool have two of the best forwards in the world in Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
However, Harit seems to be undervalued despite his breakout season. Schalke need to hold onto Harit, because his transfer value will only increase. He’s vital to their squads ambitions, and if Schalke make a smart signing next summer in attack and continue to develop the likes of Ahmed Kutucu and Rabbi Matondo, they could mount a serious title challenge in the near future.
But they need Harit to be a part of their future if they want to live up to their expectations as a club. Schalke cannot hold onto Harit forever amidst interest from arguably the two most successful clubs in the world, but they can realistically wait long enough to have one huge year with a superstar player like Harit before selling him for every penny he’s worth.
