Centerbacks

7.6. So composed on the ball. Doesn’t panic. Always a good sign for a 19-year-old centerback. But he also had his mishaps. A bit heavy-footed on his attempted long-balls and drives forward and got unnecessarily sloppy towards the end of the first half. Still, all signs point to positive. This is a kid we can count on in the now and going forward. And that was thumped home when he gave Schalke the go-ahead with a tremendous, literally perfect header in the 67th. Just fantastic. Would have liked to see him do more in defense, but honestly, what more could you ask of him.. CB. FC Schalke. OZAN KABAK

7.0. Aggressive and tidy. We’re used to the former, not so much the latter, but his ability to play a mature match as a defender is further testament to how special this guy is. That said, a bit unlucky on the penalty against him. His hand was in an unnatural spot, but it clearly wasn’t intentional. Still, a penalty, and a hard one to bear. Hard to hold a central midfielder at fault for a defensive collapse, but this unit as a whole has to bear the burnt of the criticism in a day that will be known as “The Henning Undoing.”. CB.
