4. Ingo Anderbrugge

Maybe sometimes I think that too much weight is placed on a goal scoring player, but you can’t hide from the fact that goals win games, and, that being the case, Ingo Anderbrugge won FC Schalke a lot of games, and a lot of important games at that.

For starters, he ditched Borussia Dortmund for the far superior FC Schalke, and safe to say he never regretted it.

At the time of his arrival, FC Schalke were mired in the second division—a testament to Anderbrugge to make that switch.

Within three years of his arrival, FC Schalke had been promoted (1991) and Anderbrugge, a creative midfielder, had scored 36 goals for his side.

From there, Anderbrugge became a Schalke regular, working his way into future legendhood status with his 82 goals in 316 appearances and helping his side to the UEFA Cup triumph in 1997. And while his career post-Schalke was short-lived, his career during his FC Schalke stay is storied, it is epic, and it easily ranks him as one of the best.
