Wide Midfielders
As you’ll come to learn about me, I absolutely love Alessandro Schopf, and still fervently believe that, give him the right opportunity, and he can take the reigns and run with it. He’s the natural heir to Daniel Caligiuri, and while he was far from perfect against Hoffenheim, he showed up, he played well, and that counts for something.
More from Release The Knappen
- Schalke 04: Arkadiusz Milik would take everything, but he’s worth it
- Schalke 04: Ozan Kabak makes Jean-Claire Todibo pass quietly
- Schalke 04: Omar Mascarell the only boost between now and then
- Schalke 04: David Wagner just has to make it to the end of the season
- Schalke 04: At least we still have Weston McKennie
That doesn’t mean the starts here.
Assuming that Suat Serdar‘s adductor injury sustained on October 14th has subsided, expect the German to get the start wide. He’s been such an understated weapon for Die Knappen, mostly because he just hasn’t been able to stay on the pitch. He’s missed three match and counting already this year. Hopefully that ends against Dortmund, when we will need him.
Although, if he can’t go, I’d love to think that Schopf can get himself another opportunity.
Regardless, on the other side, Daniel Caligiuri will keep his spot. He’s just another guy who is too important not to start. Not least of all because of the threat he possesses from set-pieces. He’s a regular in Revierderbies, and more times than not he has a pretty upstanding role whenever the rivalry rolls out.
Finally, the front two combination.
